ADHD

ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by persistent difficulties with attention, impulse control, and in many cases, hyperactivity. People with ADHD may struggle to stay focused on tasks, follow through on responsibilities, manage their time, and regulate their emotions — often despite genuinely trying their best. It is one of the most commonly diagnosed conditions in children, but it frequently continues into adulthood and is often underrecognized in women and girls, who tend to present with less visible symptoms. ADHD exists on a spectrum — some people experience primarily attention difficulties, others hyperactivity and impulsivity, and many experience a combination of both.

 

At its neurological core, ADHD involves underactivity in the brain's frontal regions, which are responsible for focus, planning, and self-regulation, as well as dysregulation in dopamine and norepinephrine systems that are critical for motivation and attention. Neurofeedback has one of its strongest evidence bases in ADHD — by training the brain to produce more of the activity patterns associated with focused, calm states and less of the slow, unfocused brainwave patterns commonly seen in ADHD, it helps the brain naturally build better attention and self-regulation over time. Neuromodulation approaches such as tDCS can further support this by gently stimulating the frontal brain regions responsible for executive function, helping to increase their activity and improve focus, impulse control, and cognitive performance. 

 

These approaches are non-invasive, drug-free, and work by addressing ADHD at its neurological root rather than simply managing symptoms on the surface, making them valuable options — especially for those who haven't found relief through medication or traditional therapy alone.
